iMesh's music filters skipping a bit |
|
|
The new iMesh, launched last week as the first record label-approved file-swapping service, has a Led Zeppelin problem.
Like its peers in the digital music business, from Napster to Apple Computer's iTunes, iMesh does not have the legal rights to distribute recordings from the popular 1970s rockers. But using the company's new service, it requires only a quick point and click of the mouse to download several of Led Zeppelin's biggest hits.

Los Angeles, October 25: File-sharing network iMesh, once a Napster-style service that was sued for allowing illegal song-swapping, said it plans on Tuesday to launch a new pay service.

File-sharing network iMesh signs distribution deal with Sony BMG |
|
|
Sony BMG Music Entertainment has agreed to license its digital music content to iMesh for distribution through iMesh’s peer-to-peer file-sharing network, the companies said.
Sony and iMesh executives called the deal a significant turning point in the legitimate use of p2p networks to distribute copyrighted digital content. "We are pleased to make our music available to the new iMesh as they build a service that will offer consumers a compelling experience and will respect our copyrights," said Thomas Hesse, president of Sony BMG’s Global Digital Business Group.

iMesh confirms Sony deal |
|
|
Music giant Sony BMG has reached a licensing agreement with file-swapping service iMesh, one of the first such tie-ups since a U.S. Supreme Court decision clamping down on online copyright infringement.
The deal, confirmed on Friday by an iMesh representative, followed a high court ruling that unauthorized networks such as Grokster could be held liable for the copyright infringement of their users. Analysts said that decision added momentum to the move toward networks sanctioned by media companies.
Once one of the most popular of post-Napster song-swapping networks, iMesh, formed in 1999, was sued by the record labels in 2003 for copyright infringement and settled for $4.1 million.
The New York-based service said just after the June 27 Supreme Court ruling in favor of entertainment companies and against rival file-swapping network Grokster that it would roll out a music industry-"sanctioned" song-swapping service.

iMesh Unveils Authorized P2P Model & Service after a Year of Development |

iMesh, the long established peer-to-peer (P2P) music service that reached an early settlement agreement with the recording industry, today announced a fully authorized P2P business model and the upcoming launch of the newly configured iMesh. Following today's Supreme Court ruling on MGM vs. Grokster, the company is the first and only globally active P2P to offer a sanctioned model that will incorporate many user benefits common to the P2P file sharing experience, while assuring compensation to registered rightsholders.

Okay, it seems as if there was a big argument among the moderators going on again (which of course is my fault). Hence I have cleared the bot's database again and people who would like to be moderators in the chat can now apply for this "job".
