War Toys ...

CHICAGO: A US company is developing a gun that can fire bullets with variable speed and can be set to kill, wound or just cause a bruise.
Lund and Company Invention, a Chicago-based toy design studio, which makes toy rockets that are powered by burning hydrogen, is receiving funding from the US army to adapt the same technology for firing bullets as the army is interested in weapons that can be switched between lethal and non-lethal modes, a report said. Zak McKracken: Between Time and Space

 zak2

“Zak McKracken: Between Time and Space” is an unofficial sequel of the adventure-classic “Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders” which was released in 1988. We (a bunch of adventure-fans) made it our task to use the theme of this impressive cult-game and create a sequel which follows in the footsteps of the classic adventure games, but at the same time delivers a brand new experience.

The Zak:btas-Team worked about seven years on an inofficial non-commercial sequel to "Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders". Uncountable leisure-times, weekends and summer vacations were spent for "Zak McKracken - Between Time and Space" (Some people already began to title the game "Zak McKracken Forever"), but now it's finally done - and we are very proud of the outcome! It is one of the most extensive fan-adventures ever released and to be released in the next years.

Yo Frankie! An open Game

After Orange and Peach, Blender Institute continues with a new open project: Apricot. This time it isn’t a movie but a 3D game! Starting february 1st 2008, a small team of again the best 3D artist and developers will develop a game jointly with the on-line community. The main characters in the game are based on the short 3D animation open movie Peach. At the end of July 2008 the production ends and August is used for DVD and documentation making. Releasing the game at end of August.

The team will work on a cross platform game (at least Linux, Windows, OS X), using Blender for modeling and animation, Crystal Space as 3D engine and delivery platform, and Python for some magic scripting to glue things together. It is not only the purpose to make a compelling 3D game experience, but especially to improve and validate the open source 3D game creation pipeline, with industry-standard conditions. At this moment we only know that the game characters are funny and furry, and the game environment is outdoors in a field and forest. Once the team is together - February 2008 - they will define the game concept and game design.

Eel Falvored Surge

Stories

eel

Whoops, no, my mistake. The name of the drink is Surging Eeland actually has nothing to do with our dearly departed Surge. In Japanese it's Unagi Nobori. And it doesn't just taste like eel, it iseel. "Contains extracts from the head and bones of the serpentine fish." On one hand, I eat eel with my sushi, so that's not so odd. On the other hand, the concept of drinking an eel smoothie just doesn't, you know, thrill me.
