'' The Concert of Profit ''

This is one article i read and found very interesting and most of all very mind ticklish, that i think it helps us someway to have a diferent notion of this world we live in on a diferent level, maybe, who knows, on another universe that seems to b beyond most of us. Someway in terms of an anagram this feels a bit like the story line of the Matrix series, where it seems our fate is beyond our own hands and we r no longer but a play piece on someone's chess game.
I know its long but never the less its worth a reading

Never like today the big companies had so much profit . On this period of anouncement of results, the numbers are there to be seen, from the both sides of the Atlantic, adding to those announced in Portugal. Confirmed examples? The Citigroup announced a profit record of 17.000 millions of dollars in 2004; on same period, Renault company reached 3.5500 millions of euros; just on the last trimester of the year, the oil company Mobil achieved 8. 4000 millions of dollars. The list gathers the majority of companies represented in the stock markets of the industrialized countries, and the numbers r so absurdly huge that escape completly to the notions of the common man's mind.
None the less the preached crisis , the portuguese companies participate actively in the concert of the profit. The supermarkets declared liquid results that overpass by far those of the previous year; the CTT (post-office company) pure and simply had doubled their profits, and the benefits of the EDP (electricity and gas company) and of private banks ''explode'' up. On other side, the Portugal Telecom, whose profits were, in 2004, more then the double of 2003, " is goin to spent 250 millions of euros to annihilate one thousand working places'', from news published in Público (daily portuguese newspapper). Everywhere the constant is the same, indecent and perverse: the profits grow to the same rhythm that unemployment increases!!!
In Portugal, the unemployment rate overtakes the 7% and hits the highest point of the last decade. Just in January, the degrading attendance of the unemployed was thicked by 500 portuguese. Each day, every day. And on this domain, Portugal is much better then the European Union's average, the political-economic space most envyed by the world: 8,8% of the population is unemployed. Above this average we can find Germany and France, the rich among the rich. The social unjustice isn't, therefor, exclusivly portuguese, but actually inevitable and visible consequence of the economical ultraliberalism that is so vogue nowdays.
On a text about the work market facing the globalization, the UN (United Nations) considers that the precarious jobs and the clandestine work are the motors of the paralel economy. Consists of ''a strategy of surviving that, by rule, implicates a level of poverty and social marginalization that excludes works from any kind of social or juridical protection''. Many of these survivors '' execute the work that before was being made by workers that belonged to the companies staff. From this results that an large number of people (...) have less security on maintaining their job then ever had before and have less acess to any type of assistance in case their work ends deteriorating totally or partially their health''.
Profit and Unemployment ... Are we talking bout the same Humanity? Then, to where goes the profit? To where goes all the profit originated at the cost of unemployment and threats to social security, to the health and [color=red]retirement pensions?? Is it re-invested by the companies in a way to create more wealth and more employments or then spent on their workers salaries?? Of course not!! The profit its not on the service of the workers, of the companies, not even of the community. The profit is on the service of its own. From the benefits of the french bank BNP Parisbas, 43 millions of euros go to the rise of wages , while 486 million r distribuided to the shareholders, by the form of dividends. Its the rule on the global market ....
Like this brutal dissolvation on the wealth distribution wouldn't b enough, half of the capitals of the french stock-market are owned by foreign shareholders, most of all north-americans. Its for them, then , that goes half of the work results of the french - the french that still own a job, to b undersood ofcourse. And in Portugal?? In the name of who's interests r the companies that r profitable on the stock-market r annihalating work spots ??
On an analisis with the title '' One capitalism without projects'' from the economist Patrick Artus concludes that '' if the profits dont generate tomorrow's investments and the jobs of tomorrow's next day, but are merely to distribute money for the shareholders, the utility of high profits isnt evident''. Certainly not. But its obvious that the capital that was used only to generate more capital and the work to generate more misery, that the Marxism imposed itself to half of the World. RESIGNED or REVOLTED , its good not to forget it !! [/color]
