Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Stories Hey I was working on a class project about mountains and this just kinda came out. Totally diff subject.

Where are you? Are you there, just out of sight? Maybe you are the quiet ones behind the leaders we see. We, as normal everyday people inhabiting this Earth, are looking for something. Some find what they are looking for in religion, others in the simple joys of life. But there are important questions left for someone to answer.

We live in a rapidly growing culture, ever changing, no matter where you abide in the world. How do we control our affect on the global environment? How do we fight terrorism? Not the news-pretty al Qaeda and the religious/cultural differences that it includes, but the oppression of one group by another. It takes many forms throughout the world. How do we learn as a society to respect and love our neighbors? To not use power as a tool to better ourselves at the expense of others. Can we use that power to bridge gaps that exist: cultural, monetary, religious? Can we leave the "me generation" mentality behind to adopt a new "we generation" way of thinking?

They say power corrupts even the most innocent. I do not believe that. With power comes responsibility. Sometimes people can be weak-willed and not face up to their responsibility, or possibly be misled into not following through on their actions. These are bad qualities to have as leaders. Time has shown that no country, or religion has been free from ineffectual or bad leaders. No man, or woman, is perfect. We can hardly expect our leaders to be perfect, but we try to elect the strongest of character(the *****st) to govern us. Sometimes we get it wrong, sometimes right. Too often, at least in America, we let others do our thinking for us, trusting in others.

Maybe there are no good leaders anymore, but I tend to think they are out there. A call for strong ethical leadership must be stressed by the citizens if we hope to grow as a strong international identity. I am not saying that the present group of leaders here is 'bad', just that I don't see it as a viable option in the future to try and push other countries around to make them behave. The United Nations, as seen from America, has just as many problems with ethics and corruption as any country.

If no strong international body is there for the countries to follow then I fail to see all the countries agreeing on any major important topic like world hunger, AIDS, global warming, civil strife in developing countries, and potential nuclear wars. We have come too far in the history of man to not be able to effectively solve these problems. All of which are equally important and globally damaging.
Nota: Sorry I felt like ranting about the world again. If you read this far you get a gold star. Tongue Am trying to write a paper about the effects of a theoretical large mountain range in the middle of Australia. Sounded cool to me but its hard to write and theorize it.
