Cloning

A question for the ops... What constitutes "cloning" ?? I come on here most days to check the forums, sometimes I am not on long enough to go into the chat... but I often check the Chat Stats.

Some of you already know that someone else has been logging on as SMEF, I checked today to find out that I have been in again on days where I haven't even logged onto the Interweb.

I understand it is easy for someone to log on in an unregistered nick, but when I log on, DalNet always asks me to identify or get kicked.

I suppose that to me, your nick is like your IRC personality, and I would not ever try to pose as someone else.

What are the safeguards, if any ? People with different IP's from different countries are obviously not having a problem logging on as me. Why anyone in their right mind would want to log on as me is beyond me, anyway.. but that's another story.

What is the difference between "logging on with another nick" and "Cloning" ?
