Some British mates of mine have been buying a newsrag called "The International Express" for some years now. It's basically a week's worth of news from the UK, and I used to like it... Despite having lived for more than half my life in Aus, you don't forget where you came from.
Over time is seems to have become more like a tabloid.
I would be interested to hear from our British friends what they think of the following..... It seems to me that you guys have a less than 50-50 chance of making it home each day...
I read about 20 pages of this week's paper.... I scanned about 35 articles, but it was too big to fit it all in.
A summary, for those who don't wish to read the pic:
Headline: Jobless up 92,000. Front page: 'Tragic Hotel Fall family" pic.
Page2: Migrant workers lead to wage cuts..Warning as rabbit flu Kills Farmer
Page 3: A male nurse poisons his former flatmates with bleach, then uses his medical knowledge to kill himself with Insulin.. The Average Briton owes 42,000 squid, and ppl are worried about their ability to pay..
Page 4: Police uncover Bomb Gear in woods: Runaway boy exposes airport Security Fiasco... "Terror beyond belief:" Martyr videos seized in raids.
Page 4: "You're not having the children" says Dad in suicide leap, hurls himself and his children off hotel balcony after going on holidays to Crete to save his marriage: Grandad chases gang: Collapses and died after chasing a hoodie gang vandalising property. Idi Amin's son will sue film makers because they portrayed his Dad as an 'Evil Tyrant'...
Page 6: Mother and 1-yr old Baby hurled across room by lightning ... UK now has more traffic cameras than police cars ...
Page 7: Children at risk in Child care schemes... Boy, 5, dies in fall from bar stool..
Page 8: Luvly 18-yr old girl dies in car accident, killed on way to get her A level results. Two other girls die in accident after a party to celebrate their results..
Page 9: Manchester cancer hospital has to issue ID cards to sufferers as they are being denied entry to pubs, restaurants and clubs because of their headwear..
Page 10: Family's Nightmare as daughter, 8, falls 100ft to death over waterfall: "I'll avenge my twin shot by the Taliban.." More than 200,000 ppl fined for WATCHING TV WITHOUT A LICENCE..FFS ...
Page 11: Golfer buries his 39-year old wife who died of breast cancer as distraught sons look on... One in three Brits look overseas to retire. Dogs can be jealous...
Page 12: 'Giving British jobs to foreigners is a recipe for national suicide"
Page 13: Judge gives an Indian man a suspended sentence after he sexually assaults a young girl.
Page 14: Death from Wasp stings on the increase... Pigeon fancier jailed after shooting neighbour following a 5-yr feud after a fire which killed his pigeons: $10,000 bill as trapped squirrel goes nuts (LOL)
Page 15: 'Robbers took my $26,000 car before 999 call was answered"... a couple who dialled 999 as thieves ransacked their home waited for more than 5 mins to be put through...
Page 16: Groom drops dead at own wedding... Junkie gave heroin and crack to her 9-yr old son ... Second life term for brutal killer who bludgeoned three generations of the same family to death ...
Page 17: Man dies of Anthrax... mourners at the funeral being sought in case they breathed in spores... More than 300 British soldiers executed in WW1 for cowardice... TV Personality advises she buried a stillborn baby in the park ... Girl of 12 fighting for life after being struck by lightning ..
Page 18: A Million children in the UK live in fear of domestic violence... Deputy Head jailed for having sex with Pupils... Britons having their identities stolen from old computers being sold in Africa for twenty squid...
Page 22: "Born to be Evil".. 16 and 17 year olds kill 10-yr old girl...
Letters page: The dear, late, sweet queen mother shot animals for fun between luncheon courses at the state-owned mansion... New prison crisis as 14 officers suspended amid corruption claims... "Explosion in Drug deaths .. "
Sport: Bolton Bloody Wanderers beat Spurs 2 - nil.
So.. what is it ? Are the reporters particularly negative, or is this just a Normal Week ? I had to put the paper down and go and have a Lie Down.

Try reading an Aus papers....Sounds no different to what we have going on here or infact anywhere in the world.
Bomber...Do you really dislike Aussie's like you portray? Sensible answer would be appreciated.

I have no English blood in me....Pure Aussie bred here. I wouldn't care if I did but just because Australia was a colony for English convicts way, way back, doesn't mean my generation came from them besides.....My ancestors are Scotish, Irish and French (great combination...explains why I am a little crazy at times ) On the other hand.....my children would have english blood in them considering my ex's father came from Yorkshire...Funny that.... Cos the girls get told they can at times have an english accent...Figure that one out

Dammit, ur right, I should try doing that before I compare. I do read Aussie newspapers now & again, of course. Seriously, I've never, ever seen that much bad news in one place before, not even from Brownsville....
A few non-iMesh poms replied to the email that I sent with the story, and added quite a few more things that have happened this week.

Did you think I was being sarcastic? No wait.... you always think I'm having a dig at you when infact I was just stating that this shit happens everywhere and yes I do mean in one place. Take Geelong, Victoria and it's surrounding suburbs for example. A small version or what they call here "mini Melbourne" always has bad news. Only this weekend Sarah went to a club in Geelong and one of her friends was at a nearby club that had to be evacuated because a lethal capsicum gas substance which was let off. This also happened in a nightclub in Melb the previous week. Trivial compared to what you listed you might think. I could go on about a murder that was commited only 10 mins from where we live....Hmm! Only 2 weeks ago I was at a nearby shopping centre and was going to go into the supermarket but had this bad headache and left only to find out 2 mins after I left, 2 masked men tried to hold up a store just near where I was going to go. Gunshots were fired and ppl were running around screaming.
I don't believe I have to justify why I reply to posts of any type but I'm growing tired of sacrcastic and senseless remarks because I do so. Try and look at it another way instead of negative.

It was no way in reference to what you replied to Bomber and yes it was trivial. I will shut up and deal with this on a personal scale as I often advise others, not openly.

Deb, your post about things happening so close to you happens everywhere - well, not in my village (shut up, Karen) really, we've only had 1 teenage lad take his life on the railway line. Take Chester where i'm at uni, it's the same.. we have stories appearing in the papers from people who have had their faces bitten by dogs for no reason with their owner just walking off in the city centre in broad daylight. Even a students house was broken into by some guy, he walked into a girls room and said he had the wrong house, left, then went back in and raped her... and this is all within 100 yards of houses i've lived in, in Chester The rape was actually featured on a programme on TV over here called Crimewatch last month...
