Make sure that you are all using the same version number. Different Patch versions will not be able to play together. e.g. version 1.0 can not play with version 1.02. You can obtain the latest patch
here(http://www.blizzard.com/patches

If your network uses Ethernet, you should verify that all computers are using the same settings.
To change the settings:

* Click on the "Start Button".
* Select "Settings".
* Select "Control Panel".
* Double-click on the "Network" icon.
* Find and select the section of your networking list that mentions IPX.
* Click "Properties".
* Click "Advanced".
* Set "Frame Type" to 802.3.
(Note: If you have a network administrator, check with him/her for the correct frame type settings on your network)
* Set "Max Connections" to 16.
* Set "Max Sockets" to 32.

It is also possible that IPX is either not configured correctly on all of the systems trying to play, or that IPX is configured for use on a different network device such as a Dial Up Adapter. If you have a network administrator, you will want to contact him/her about properly configuring IPX.
You can check to see if IPX is set up for your network card by doing the following:

* Click on the "Start Button".
* Click on "Settings".
* Select "Control Panel".
* Double-click on the "Network" icon.

If IPX is setup for your network card then one of the IPX entries should mention your network card (or NIC). For example, it could say "IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol ? NE2000 compatible" (if the only IPX entries say something like "IPX dial-up adapter" then IPX is not configured correctly).

It was always Blizzards intention (the makers of warcraft) to have all warcraft games tottally online (connected with thousands of other players, constantly) but back then buying servers and running them would of meant charging people about 50 a month to play the game.. its only recently games like this have expanded to fully immersed online capabiltys (World of Warcraft for example) and the monthly fees for playing has dropped to about 7 to 8 a month.

Its highly probabal that becuase of that, the earlier warcraft games didnt have LAN support, becuase they were never intended to be client-side games.

World of Warcraft is mostly online.. meaning most of the terrain and graphics are generated server-side, the full install of this game on your hdd is about 700mb.. which is basically 1 CD's worth of data.. although when u play, u realise that there is no way with the immense size of it, it could possibly of all fitted on one disk.

Making games this way is great, becuase it stops people from cheating, without having any of your characters information actually on your PC, its impossible for hackers to cheat there way to success.. and if they do, the server owners know about it, and BAM, your banned.

These games now, including Guild Wars.. and the indefinate free trial of Anarchy online, are becoming tottally free, meaning you dont have to pay a monthly fee to play them. Eventually this will be a normal thing, and every new game will work this way.

Some say thats a bad thing, others say its a good thing.. the only bad thing i can think of is, the games servers will be full of moaning little children, thankfully having to pay a monthly fee for World of Warcraft (which by the way is VERY worth it, the game is constantly updated, which means its impossible to ever complete it) means that the amount of whining children who play, its vastly decreased.

I played Guild Wars for a few days, and i was constantly persued by annoying teenage pricks hassling me for in-game money or items, or asking for help with the most simplist task becuase they didnt have the patience to read the instructions "how do you jump?! plz tell me! money plz?! can i have your sword plz! plz! plzzzzzzzzzz!" etc..

Plus the cybersex freaks have a field day on these games.. not only do they get to chat about sex, they also have a Avatar that can get undressed, and actually HAVE sex... very disturbing... except the benefit is, you can ACTUALLY kick the shit out of them Wink
